Getting StartedImport Contacts

Import Your Contacts

Bring your existing contacts into WorkOnward Reach in seconds. Upload a CSV or Excel file and our AI automatically maps your columns to the right fields.

Supported file formats

  • CSV (.csv) — Comma-separated values
  • Excel (.xlsx) — Microsoft Excel workbooks

Your file should have at least an email column. Other columns like name, company, and role are optional but recommended for personalization.

Step by step

1. Upload your file

  1. Navigate to Contacts in the sidebar
  2. Click Import Contacts
  3. Drag and drop your file or click to browse
  4. WorkOnward Reach analyzes your columns automatically

2. Review AI field mapping

WorkOnward Reach’s AI reads your column headers and sample data, then suggests how to map each column:

  • Map to existing field — Links the column to a standard contact field (email, first name, company, etc.)
  • Create new field — Creates a custom field for data that doesn’t match existing fields
  • Ignore — Skips the column during import

Each suggestion includes a confidence score. Review the mappings and adjust any that don’t look right.

AI-powered mapping means you don’t need to rename your columns before uploading. Whether your file says “Email Address”, “e-mail”, or “contact_email” — WorkOnward Reach figures it out.

3. Configure import options

  • Assign to a list — Add all imported contacts to an existing list or create a new one
  • Add tags — Apply tags to imported contacts for easy filtering later
  • Handle duplicates — Contacts with matching email addresses are updated, not duplicated

4. Validate and start

  1. Click Validate to check for issues (invalid emails, duplicate entries, missing required fields)
  2. Review the validation summary
  3. Click Start Import to begin processing

WorkOnward Reach shows real-time progress as contacts are imported.

After the import

Your contacts are now in WorkOnward Reach and ready for outreach. You can:

  • View them in the Contacts page
  • Filter by list or tag
  • Start building a campaign around your imported list

Tips

  • Clean your data first — Remove obviously invalid emails before importing to keep your bounce rate low
  • Use tags generously — Tags like “event-leads-2026” or “website-signups” help you segment later
  • Start small — If this is your first import, try a small batch (50-100 contacts) to test your workflow
